“Disinformation and Facts: Public Perceptions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police” event takes place in Tsaghkadzor

On April 11-12, a discussion titled “Disinformation and Facts: Public Perceptions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police” was held in Tsaghkadzor, organized by the Union of Informed Citizens NGO.

The speakers at the event included the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Sargsyan, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Armen Mkrtchyan and Head of the General Department of the Criminal Police of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan, Deputy Chief of Police Artur Barseghyan, Head of the Department for Combating Cybercrimes of the Criminal Police of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs Hayk Mkrtchyan, Head of the Patrol Service of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, Deputy Chief of Police Gevorg Zakaryan.

Journalists from Armenian media outlets and public opinion leaders participated in the discussion.

During the discussion, the participants had the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the specifics of analyzing crime statistics and its proper interpretation, to reflect on the process of police reform and its effectiveness, as well as to assess the impact of disinformation on public perceptions about the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police.

The event was organized within the framework of the EU-funded AEGIS (Accountable, Effective and Gender-Responsive Institutional Systems for Policing and Rescue Service in Armenia) project, implemented by the UNDP and the OSCE.
